SHARON — Home improvement store Building 9 plans to relocate to Sharon Township in a new building that could be open this summer.
Vice President Shane Haumesser said he hopes to see ground broken for the 42,000-square-foot building at 546 Medina Road sometime in the next few weeks. The new location will be west of Medina Line Road.
The relocation of the current Akron store at 945 S. Main St. is necessary due to a major Ohio Department of Transportation project that will reconfigure the Interstate 77/76 interchange at South Main and South Broadway streets.
The project will be good for the business, Haumesser said.
“It’s going to be bigger with a flat floor plan and wide open space,” he said. “It will have better lighting and just a better scenario altogether. We’re going from a 100-year-old building to a new building.”
Last fall, Copley officials had said that Building 9 planned to relocate its Akron location to the former 84 Lumber location at Copley Road and state Route 21. That plan fell through, Haumesser said.
He added that Building 9 must vacate its present site sometime between July and August. The business, which sells new and closeout home improvement materials, will not change its business model.
Building 9 also has a location at 132 Walnut Road S.W. in Massillon.
